Christopher G Grupen
Chris Grupen is Associate Professor of Reproductive Biology and Head of the Gamete and Embryo Technologies Group at the University of Sydney’s School of Veterinary Science. Chris commenced his research career at the Reproductive Biotechnology Division of BresaGen Ltd in 1993, where he was a member of the team that produced the first cloned pigs in Australia. In 2002, he graduated with a PhD from Meiji University, Tokyo, for his studies on the artificial activation of porcine oocytes. After carrying out postdoctoral training at the University of Adelaide’s Research Centre for Reproductive Health, he joined the Animal Reproduction Group at the University of Sydney in 2006. Throughout his career, Chris’ main goals have been to increase our understanding of the acquisition of oocyte quality, and improve the efficiency of systems used to preserve and produce embryos in vitro. His research journey has involved the study of gametes and embryos from numerous species, including pigs, sheep, cattle, horses and marmoset monkeys. Chris served as the Secretary of SRB from 2007 to 2010.
