Kelly L Walton
Kelly commenced her post-doctoral career in ovarian growth factor research in 2008, following the award of her PhD by Swinburne University. In her initial studies at Prince Henry’s Institute, Kelly described the mechanisms underpinning the biosynthesis and activation of inhibins, activins, and related TGF-β ligands. These studies enabled the generation of specific activin antagonists and inhibin mimetics. Significantly, Dr Walton's team has now proved that these approaches can effectively perturb activin-induced pathologies in vivo. In 2016, Dr Walton moved to Monash University where she co-led the Reproduction and Metabolism Laboratory up until 2021. In 2021, she was recruited to the School of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Queensland as a Senior Research Fellow (5-year fellowship). Dr Walton is a specialist in TGF-β biology (49 papers/13 years FTE), focusing on the development of patented therapeutics and innovative mouse models for the regulation of female reproduction in mammals.
