Theresa E Hickey
A/Prof Theresa Hickey received her PhD in Medicine at the University of Adelaide in 2006 and is currently a National Breast Cancer Foundation Fellow and Head of the Breast Cancer Research Group in the Dame Roma Mitchell Cancer Research Laboratories, University of Adelaide, South Australia. Her broad research interest is androgen receptor activity in female tissues, with a focussed interest in androgen receptor signalling in relation to normal breast biology and breast cancer. Dr Hickey has also investigated androgen receptor signalling in polycystic ovary syndrome and in prostate and ovarian cancers. Her work published in Nature Medicine in 2021 resolved a clinical controversy about the role of androgen receptors in estrogen receptor positive breast cancers and provided strong evidence for use of an androgen receptor agonist strategy for treatment of early and advanced disease states.
