Priya Sumithran

Dr Priya Sumithran (MBBS (Hons), FRACP, PhD) is a clinician researcher, with roles as an endocrinologist at Austin Health, and head of the Clinical and Translational Obesity Group at the University of Melbourne, Department of Medicine (Austin). Her clinical work focuses on the care of people with obesity and its complications, and her research interests are in the neuroendocrine regulation of appetite, and improving treatment outcomes for people with obesity. Dr Sumithran has received a number of awards for research, including the Endocrine Society of Australia/Servier Young Investigator award (2012) and the Bupa Health Foundation Emerging Health Researcher of the Year (2012), and is the author of numerous peer-reviewed papers, including publications in the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology, and the Medical Journal of Australia. Dr Sumithran is on the council of the Australian and New Zealand Obesity Society.
